The title of Sid Meiers Civilization: Beyond Earth is a bit of a clue as to where this latest entry into the venerable godsim series is taking you. It is, of course, the future. Our world has been destabilised through a series of catastrophic events and if mankind is to survive it must look to the stars. And so the redeveloped nations focus their resources on interstellar travel, and its up to you, the player, to guide our species to the establishment of new civilisations on new worlds. Youll get to explore new planets, but that privilege comes with tough challenges, too. Youll need to research new technologies, build mighty armies, create Wonders and decide the fate of your new world. Things start back in our very own solar system. Youll need to choose one of eight different expedition sponsors, each with its own leader and set of implications. Pull together your ship, colonists and cargo and make decisions that will start to affect you when you reach your new home. Once there youll need to tame your new frontier. You might experience new life forms and ancient alien relics. Youll have to harvest new resources and establish trade routes if you want to build cities that will survive and flourish. You can even extend your civilisation into orbit, with military and scientific satellites that will support your civilisation. Multiplayer allows up to eight players to compete for control of alien worlds, while full mod support enales players to extend their experience. Time to go where no Civ game has gone before...
